Seastnan operates an ABRET-recognized training program for new IONM candidates, as well as advanced education for seasoned technologists. Combining didactic material with clinical exposure, trainees learn the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve official certification (CNIM) and excel in IONM.
Basic IONM Training
10-unit didactic course
Weekly virtual meetings covering anatomy & physiology, basic spine modalities, IONM equipment instruction, case reviews, etc
Concurrent with OR training
OR clinical training
Paired with trainers until independent
Build ABRET-required case log
Exposure to variety of hospitals, surgeons, and procedures
Basic IONM Training Timeline
2.5 MONTHS: Didactic coursework
4-8 MONTHS: OR training before trainees are able to monitor surgeries independently.
9 MONTHS: ABRET requires a log of 150 cases before taking the CNIM exam, and this usually takes around 9 months to build.
Upon CNIM achievement, IONM technologists are invited to continue through advanced education (including craniotomies, complex spine procedures, vascular procedures, etc).
Seastnan accepts 2-3 new applicants bi-annually (winter and summer), following university graduations.
